Milestone Projects

MILESTONE PROJECTS These are my top 3 projects from OBDF 110B.  VOXEL MODEL This project focused on building a complex model using a voxel-based approach. The space shuttle was constructed from a grid of 1x1 sized cubes, looking at the proportion and scale. This model was great because it was all block-based geometry while maintaining recognizability.  CASTLE The castle project was developed by using skills in precision modelling and architectural detailing, I used grasshopper for the white tent parts. Using Rhinos curve, surface and solid tools,, the castle model incorporated towers, walls and a golden structure (shape). The focus was on understanding symmetry, scale, Boolean shortcuts to create a cohesive architectural structure. HOLLOW FORM (Firestorm Cup) The hybrid project explored creative form-fusion, combining two contrasting objects into a single coherent 3D design. The Firestorm Cup merged the functional shape of a drinking cup with the dynamic and natural qualities ...

3D Printed Hollow Form Object: The Hybrid

FIRESTORM CUP For this project the task was to take both of our designs the cup from Piper and the fire from Me and combine them together to make one solid object/hybrid. Most of the designs are based on the idea on a swirling fire type cup. The hardest part about this was to try to make the fire take the shape of the cup and curve as well, in the end we decided after a couple of ideas to go with a non-curved fire cup.    These are a couple of sketches on how were going to combine the project. We had to make changes to the bottom of the cup due to the potential fail of the 3D printer not printing on slopes (too shallow on our other design), after revisions we added more support at the bottom so that it did not have a ledge or flat surface. For now this is the final cup design since it was our only option at the time. We settled on the idea of a cup with two flames on each side as our last attempts was a flame in the shape of a cup. This posed many potential problems when it ca...

Laser Cut Coaster: Final Coaster Design

FINAL COASTER DESIGN Finalized Designs just need to laser cut them. Design changed from last time. The coaster will still have a moving aspect (the light colored wood in the middle, will spin around).

Laser Cut Coaster: Select, Refine, Design

LASER CUT COASTER (IDEAS) Idea: Mountain's This was probably one of the hardest projects in terms of it's simplicity (I could not decide on what to do), Coasters are simple, but my ideas were not coming out. For right now this is my design. The main material that I choose was a thin piece of Plywood, carefully cut and joined together to form a smooth, durable surface for holding cups with a base. The main challenge in this project was developing a movement mechanism,  the goal was for the coaster to tilt or move when pressure is applied to one side (for example, when a cup is placed on it) so that the opposite side would lift. This gravity-assisted motion concept is still being refined, as I continue to explore ways to make the movement smooth and balanced while maintaining the coaster’s stability.

Laser Cut Coaster: Brainstorm & Concept Sketching

LASER CUT COASTER (IDEAS) All 3d models are flat pieces of materials (not known), glued together to make 3d shape. My top 2 current concepts would be the pyramid which will have lights on the inside, lighting up the square on top, making the cup (transparent or glass) glow. The second concept would be the one on the bottom left. I will attempt to make a coaster that has moving parts. Once the weight of the cup is placed on the scale, the oposite side will lift up the liquid pouring it onto the cup via gravity.

CASTLE REFINED

Image
CASTLE REFINED The biggest challenge for this project was the texture, folds and layout. Concept was sketched out in Rhino (mostly layout). The main comment from my peers was to include a roof with some windows or doors.  The roof was a tarp-like structure with folds (curves)
